Councilwoman Terry Cohen On WBOC Tonight

Mrs. Cohen will give her side of what she feels is going on with the Budget at 6:00 PM tonight on Channel 16, WBOC.

For Some The Race Is On In Princess Anne, Others Have Been Disqualified Already!

Brenda Wade, former Dean of Liberal Arts Department at UMES threw her hat into the ring to compete for a Commissioner's seat in Princess Anne. However, the Election Board tossed her application in the trash because she does not and did not qualify by living in the Town of Princess Anne for one calender year. This may be the first time she's learning about it as this is Breaking News.

She moved to Princess Anne last May, therefore she was disqualified. Mr. Frank White, President of the Town Commissioners has also agreed to absolutely run again for his seat. He has already served Princess Anne for three terms and has been President for 6 years.

On a personal note, Frank White seems to have everything it takes to have the support it would take to win once again as there are very few people in Princess Anne that don't truly love this man. He has done so much for that community and every time I go there and listen to UMES representatives speak about him or any other event, everything is so positive and everyone is so grateful for his service to the community. Boy, it's certainly a FAR CRY from the things we hear about Barrie Tilghman.

So why didn't you read this in today's Daily Times? Because I hear they supported Mrs. Wade and its business as usual. Maybe now that I've exposed it you'll read the truth tomorrow in their paper?

For Bill Duvall, the Enemy of My Enemy ...

I'm sure that you have heard the old adage, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". If you have ever been involved in politics, you have probably been guilty of falling for it at one time or another. Unfortunately, few locals have been more guilty of this sin of vacuity more than our local sage Bill Duvall.

There is no question that Bill would be leading the charge for the election of Maryland Sen. Andy Harris (R-7) to Congress EXCEPT for the support thrown on Harris by Salisbury News publisher Joe Albero (and perhaps myself). Harris and Duvall are very close philosophically. Of course it is far more important to trash someone who is perceived to be a friend of Duvall's archenemy Albero.

Yesterday we were treated to a similar post by Duvall. Somehow, Duvall has decided that Albero has endorsed a tax increase for Salisbury.

I did a little search. The only two RECENT posts mentioning a tax increase on Salisbury News were one written by me (not Albero) and one post where Albero is drawing attention to the city's crumbling public infrastructure. In this post Albero asks (tongue in cheek) if a 50% tax increase would make things better.

Are People Really This Stupid?

If the Daily Times thinks they can bribe people into a yearly subscription, well, if they're that stupid, go for it!

However, you have to wonder if there's anything more to this? Is there a connection between Bubba, Gordy, the upcoming Election for the Mayor's Office & the Daily Times? I mean, it could be said that, (depending on the agreement here) Gordy is trying to please the Daily Times just before an election, should the dots connect?

Nevertheless, just remember that this will only buy you around 5 gallons of gas and you're then stuck with a bill for the rest of the year! Did I mention it takes no gas to view Salisbury News? Paper is being wasted and they have to deliver it to you daily, that burns a lot of gas!

Oh well, like I have always said, desperate people do desperate things. The Daily Times is obviously desperate! Oh, by the way, I heard the actual date is the 16th, not the 15th. I could be wrong? LOL

Is Jim Ireton Getting Into The Race For Mayor Of Salisbury?

Reasons to Consider Running for Mayor of Salisbury...May 13, 2008....

1. No Salisbury Police/Fire/Code Compliance employees recommended in FY 09 Budget (Each Department head asked for positions...6 in Police). No new police positions funded in the last 10 years

2. Water and Sewer Rates to go up 25% by recommendation of the administration. Water and Sewer Surplus fund - 2007 (14 Million) to 2013 (-6 Million)...how do you loose 21 Million dollars in 6 years?

3. Legal budget for the city up 97% in 10 years
4. Mayor's budget up 120% in 10 years
5. Taxes up 25% in 10 years
6. Long Term Obligation Debt up 308% in 10 years

The tax levy (what we collect in taxes) is up 10 Million dollars since 2000...

Citizens - Salisbury has collected more money due to higher taxes and property rates and assessments. Salisbury has bonded to the credit limit, and the administration has spend every last dime collected. Salisbury's "Financial Health" by overall debt per capita is considered "weak" by financial institution standards.

Yes, today I consider once again running for Mayor of Salisbury...solely to ask this question for our citizens....WHERE HAS ALL OUR MONEY GONE?

Sports Pic of the Day!

From the 2nd Browns/Ravens game last season. I was in the endzone where Phil Dawson kicked the last second FG to send it into overtime. Though originally called no good, after some discussion it was called complete, and the teams went to overtime. A Josh Cribbs 40 yard return set up Dawson's game winning field goal. This was a great game to have gone to!

Cell Phone Information

Cell phone companies are charging $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 Information calls. Since no one carries a telephone directory in their Vehicle, they get away with it.

When you need to use the 411 Information option, simply dial 1(800) FREE 411, or 1(800)373-3411; you will incur no charge. This works on your home telephone as well.

If you enter this number into your cell phone you will always have a way now to get a phone number if you need one.

This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.

Law Enforcement From The Eastern Shore Launches National Click It Or Ticket Campaign

On May 19 at 10am at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, representatives from Law Enforcement Agencies from across Delmarva will gather to kick off the National Click it or Ticket Campaign to increase seat belt usage. Agencies from Queen Anne’s County to Somerset County will show their support for saving lives.

Statistics prove that the most effective way to reduce deaths and injuries on our Nation’s highways is to increase seat belt use in the daytime as well as at night. As a matter of fact, an estimated 15,383 lives were saved last year simply by buckling up.

But unfortunately, too many motorists still need a tough reminder. That’s why the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is encouraging all States and local law enforcement agencies and highway safety officials to join the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization campaign which runs from May 19th - June 1st. The campaign will renew its emphasis on day and night enforcement as well as young drivers.

What’s so alarming is that motor vehicle crashes continue to be the leading cause of death for 15- to 20-year-olds in America. In fact, of the total fatalities in 2006, 5,130 were passenger vehicle occupants between the ages of 15 and 20, and 64 percent of those killed were NOT wearing their seat belts at the time of the fatal crash. That’s why law enforcement officers will be working overtime to crack down on all young drivers who are not buckling up.

Research shows that high-visibility enforcement campaigns work. This year, the campaign across the Eastern Shore, will step-up law enforcement activities and will have officers out on the streets around the clock to enforce seat belt laws and save lives.

When worn correctly, seat belts have proven to reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45 percent – and by 60 percent in pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans.

So unless you want to risk a ticket, or worse – your life, please remember to buckle up day and night – Click It or Ticket.

Salisbury City Debt Is Just One Symptom of Gross Fiscal Mismanagement

Whether Joe Albero's report of Salisbury Mayor Barrie Tilghman not seeking re-election proves true or not, the city of Salisbury is headed for some rough seas. The city's debt load is only a symptom of the gross fiscal mismanagement of Tilghman's administration.

Contrary to this morning's Daily Times puff piece on the city's debt, the current level of debt is not justifiable. While it is true that the large jump in debt during Tilghman's administration is largely due to the upgrade of the city's waste water treatment plant, the debt level would not be nearly as large IF the Mayor and her lackeys on this, and the previous, council had shown even a minimum of concern for city residents and taxpayers.

A prime example is the now infamous "growth pays for growth" strategy put forth by Tilghman, previous council president (and now Salisbury exile) Mike Dunn, and our own local Nobel laureate, Councilman Gary Comegys. Using the failed strategy of paying the customer to take your product and claiming that they would make up the losses on volume, the Tilghman / Comegys axis subsidized developers, some of whom do not even have to pay city taxes.

My son Paige Hurley is Director of Parks for Somerset County. They are bringing in 4 young men who travel around the country performing "Street Ball" with an important message for people of all ages. They perform at 6:00PM tonight at the old Washington High School gym and tomorrow at the West Side Salvation Army gym at 4:45PM.

A Thief Amongst The Salisbury Fire Department?

Word has it that someone actually cut one of the bricks out of the wall in the old Fire Station 16. Allegedly the one who did so might be in the photo above and had been witnessed by two individuals for doing such.

Chief See put out an internal letter to all Staff and RETIRED people who used to be related with the Fire Department demanding the brick be returned to the Fire Station immediately or action would be taken against them.

It didn't take long before the brick actually returned and was found behind a door in the building. I wonder why the other Blogger didn't report on this illegal matter?????? Need I say more? I'll leave the rest to the commenters on this Post as many of them know who vandalized the building and stole the brick out of the wall.

It's Official, Bubba's Formed A Committee To Run For Mayor

That's right, your Bankrupt Council Vice President just formed a group to kick off his campaign to run for Mayor.

Now, let's see just how stupid the Taxpayers are in Salisbury. I want you to GO HERE and type in Gary Comegys. Check out Gary Comegys track record with Child Support and Bankruptcy and let's just nip this in the bud right away.

Gary may not like this Post and trust me, there are many more to come. However, he is a public figure and it is my right to expose everything I possibly can about this man to inform my readers just who they're considering.

I'm also informed that Barrie Tilghman will not run again. Thank You Barrie! Now get the hell out of the way, you've destroyed the City enough. Knowing Barrie though, she'll ride this all the way to the very end and use that money the Council passed to get a study to see if the taxpayers are actually willing to vote for her again. She's obviously delusional enough to think she's actually got a chance.

I'll tell you what Barrie. Try this out for size and that goes for you too Gary. Ask every person you know if they go to Salisbury News. Once you do you're going to realize just how popular this Site is now and you'll also come to realize that you can't win. That's right, I'm telling you right here and now, neither one of you can win, period. Gary, you were so lucky the last time, you almost got thrown on your rear end off the Council until you and Barrie pulled in the college students. They won't be naive a second time around.

So Folks, tell Bubba what you think of his wanting to run for Mayor. This should be really good!

Question of the Day, Tue 5/14

What's your opinion on mobile homes?

Yesterday, Joe had posted 2 mobile home fires, 1 of which a father had died. Some feathers got ruffled with inappropriate comments about families living in mobile homes.

Voice your opinions here. Here's mine:

I grew up in a trailer park in Parsonsburg until I was 6 or 7. I don't remember much about it. My parents barely scraped up a down payment on a home in Willards to get us out of the trailer park. When I moved out at 18, I bought my own brand new mobile home for $28K, since I chose to rely on NO ONE to give me anything. It's mine, paid for. I will soon have my first "house" at 30 years old. I'm not looking forward to a mortgage payment, but I need to know my children are safe from fires and such, not to mention we need more room. For those who choose to live the "grand" lifestyle with majorly ridiculous mortgage payments, congrats to you. I will certainly enjoy my new home, but I will miss the "closeness" my family has in the trailer. Finally, I am not borrowing more than the bank is recommending. Bank fraud is just 1 of the reasons people are in foreclosures. My payment is lower than what most mortgages are these days (which is about $2200+ around here).

Last Chance For Salisbury Residents

The Mayor’s administration wants to increase the sewer and water rates by 25% this year and 20% more next year.

As The Jail Turns

It took the great 3D over a year to finally do something about replacing his retired Chief of Security. During said time, security at WCDC pretty well collapsed under an administration which clearly has no idea how to deal even-handedly with its
employees. The perfect example of this is a comparison of two events which happened within the last two or three months. First we had Mr. L, who made certain statements of seriously violent intent directed at total strangers not incarcerated within WCDC and drew the attention of 3D and Law Enforcement. Mr. L's case was
handled very quietly by 3D, and after completing certain requirements laid out by 3D, Mr. L will be permitted to return to work. Ms. G, on the other hand, was accused of suspicion of illegal actions and was publically arrested in the officer's lunch
room by police officers escorted personally by 3D, cuffed, her badge removed and herself removed from the building by force. So much for even handed treatment. The public arrest of Ms. G upset officers and everyone else who either witnessed it or heard about it. Why the difference in treatment? Is one more guilty than the
other? Was Mr. L innocent until proven guilty and Ms. G guilty until proven innocent?

When tensions at WCDC were almost to the breaking point, and seasoned officers were leaving almost as quickly as new hirees, a date was announced for The Interview. Only six applicants were notified and scheduled. Of those six, two were from Outside. The rest were from WCDC. Miraculously, said interviews took place on
time, a first for the current administration, and it was known by almost everyone working within those hallowed white stone walls that the decision was made and accepted that very day. Was it announced so that things could return to normal and healing could begin? Hell no. 3D is so out of touch with the atmosphere around
him that he withheld the decision for another week and several days! Tensions increased far beyond any breaking points and several of those within WCDC who were included in the interview process behaved like naughty children, causing even more problems for those attempting to put in a decent day's work.

By the time the announcement was finally made, everyone felt reasonably certain that the Chosen One would be Major Mopy, the worst possible choice. After all, had 3D not promised to give him Security Chief? The Jail population was prepared for this, and so was Mopy. What a shock to learn that, not only was Mopy not the Chosen One, but he had not even placed in the top three finalists! No, the choice turned out to be a dark horse, an outsider. Was there collusion? If so, it can never be proven. What there is, as it turns out, is total chaos. That chaos continues to this very
moment. There are reports and witness accounts of Major Mopy locking himself away in his office and ignoring his job, the phone and everything else. Once that tantrum was over, there now seems to be a battle ongoing between the two Majors. Mopy sulks about his office, emerging only long enough to countermand orders given
by his fellow Major, and THAT Major is running about the hallways yanking on his collar insignia while shouting "I AM THE MIGHTY MUGWUMP!" at everyone he encounters! Orders are given, countermanded, countermanded, and countermanded again, until no one knows what to do! All the little officers are scrambling about,
trying their best to do what they're told and to remain safe while dealing with 900+ inmates AND two insane, childish Majors who are being permitted to continue this ridiculous behavior.

Where is the leadership? Where is the concern for officer and inmate safety? Anyone can easily predict the train wreck waiting to happen, yet no one is doing anything to stop it. Is this what 3D gets paid the Big Bucks for, to create chaos and in-fighting day after day after day? Is this what the 7 Dwarves expect of the
Warden, or Director of WCDC? If so, I want my votes back!

Farm Boy Delivers Crime Stats For Salisbury

Joe,
One of your posters said Salisbury is not crime ridden. BS

http://www.cityrating.com/citycrime.asp?city=Salisbury&state=MD

Salisbury is higher than the national average in every category except murder and car theft. Some categories are as much as 3.59 times the national average.

Come on folks, get your head out of the ground and look around you.
